Delicious Cuban torrejas, or French toast.
Our culinary culture is characterized by a wide variety of traditional dishes that are full of delicious homemade desserts. Today, as the New Year approaches, we're talking about Cuban torrejas in syrup, one of Cuba's favorite homemade sweets, literally finger-licking!

Method of preparing Cuban torrejas:
The first thing to do is to cut the bread into slices and dip it for a few minutes in a mixture made from beaten egg yolks, sugar, milk and selected liqueur, as well as cinnamon or vanilla. optional.
Then each slice of bread is passed in the beaten egg, to finally fry the torrejas in hot oil and, preferably, individually.
Remove the torrejas from the heat when they are nicely browned on both sides; drain them on absorbent paper and, in a bowl, place them with the cinnamon syrup and lemon zest.
Finally, it is recommended to cool the torrejas in the fridge for a few hours, if they are not eaten before even hot, because at home for example I have to keep watch so that they do not disappear inexplicably during the night.
