HOTELS BEST SUITED FOR PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY

Several hotels in Varadero are well equipped to accommodate guests with reduced mobility, including those who use wheelchairs.

You might not think so, but yes, several hotels in Varadero have good facilities for people with reduced mobility. I have seen access ramps next to the stairs that go up to the main door in the few hotels I have visited, such as the Villa Tortuga.

Many hotels also have ramps to get over the dune which is often between the hotel and the beach.

A wise piece of advice

To avoid unpleasant surprises, insist on getting a room that is on the ground floor. Indeed, in Varadero hotels (especially in 3.5 stars and below), elevator breakdowns are not uncommon. And repairs can take time since they have difficulty obtaining the necessary parts. Even if there is more than one elevator, the others can quickly become very busy and waiting times become long.

And one day…

It is hoped that all hotels will provide wheelchair users with equipment like this.

Hotels recommended by our members (including several travel advisors)

  1. Douglas Vibert: There is also the Arenas Blancas which has rooms for people in wheelchairs on the first floor and I brought my mother in a wheelchair and there are ramps everywhere on the site.

  2. Sonia Sinclair (January 2019): For people who use wheelchairs. I asked the guest service to see the available rooms. The first one I saw is under renovation. After explaining my steps to the new manager, he thought that these photos did not give a good enough image. He kindly offered an appointment the next day and had the room prepared so that I could show you. There are 4 accessible rooms. All on the ground floor. Once your reservation is made, you must write to the hotel, to the manager directly or to the guest service, mention your reservation # and that you need an accessible room: diralojamiento@resortsolymar.gca.tur.cu. This one had a king bed and a sofa bed, but they will accommodate according to your needs. The manager pointed out to me that they even installed the closet pole lower than usual to make it accessible.

  1. A ramp to the beach will be built shortly: "Thank you for your comment, we are already planning the construction of a new access ramp to the beach. Warm greetings from MUTHU Playa Varadero."

  1. Hope Ludlow Aldridge's comment: “The Roc Barlovento has wheelchair access. They have ground floor rooms that you can request, the ramp up to the bar, lobby, buffet restaurant. Also to the pools, and other buildings. Since they built the big sand dune after the hurricane, there is now a wooden ramp onto the beach, but no wheelchair access beyond the ramp.”

  1. Chantal Young The beautiful Costa is also very well adapted, even a ramp to go to the beach for the rooms, I don't know for the rest everything is great, even I'm in a chair.
