This is what the new dollar cards look like for buying fuel in Cuba

Since March 1, new fuel prices have been in effect in Cuba. In this article, we will tell you everything about the two new cards available for purchasing fuel: the USD Classic Card and the Bandec USD Prepaid Card.

Classic Card in USD

The financial company of the Official Corporation Cimex.SA has launched the Classic Card, a new means of payment in dollars in Cuba. This USD card, issued by Fincimex, is designed to attract customers who have access to foreign currencies in the country, as they have recognized.

The card is valid for 5 years and can be purchased directly from the CADECA network or request its preparation from abroad via the Tocopay website. On request, it can be collected from FINCIMEX offices in Cuba.

USD Classic Card Benefits

– This is a non-personalized card that offers a high level of security by basing its use on the use of a consumer PIN, without requiring the customer's personal identification.

– Cards are issued with no predefined amount, giving you the freedom to choose the amount of money you want to load onto them.

– Purchase of goods and services: Allows the purchase of goods and services in all public or private companies with a point of sale (POS) terminal and for imports.

– Offers you the opportunity to save on your purchases in stores selected for their discounts. Always ask.

Classic USD Card Limits

Having other cards, many Cubans consider this unnecessary and mention its limitations. For example, the USD Classic card does not allow transfers between cards of any type and cannot be operated by Transfermóvil. In addition, the balance is non-refundable and can only be withdrawn in CUP at Cadecas and bank counters.

Bandec USD prepaid card

USD prepaid cards from the Cuban bank Bandec are an electronic payment method that can be purchased in US dollars or in any of the currencies authorized to circulate in Cuba.

Since January 24, 2024, cards can be acquired by natural persons, foreign and national, residents of Cuba or not. Also because of the different forms of non-state management.

With this product you can purchase fuel at dollar service centers in Cuba and throughout the network of wholesale and retail stores activated in the country.

To purchase the card you must pay a minimum of 50.00 USD, of which 4.00 USD is intended for the acquisition of the card and the rest remains as available balance. Payment must be made in cash or by transfer from abroad.

The cards are valid for 5 years from purchase and can be purchased at 69 Bandec branches.

It is important to note that the rest of the so-called MLC cards in Cuba from Bandec, BPA and Banmet cannot be used to purchase fuel in Cuba.
